All in a Day´s Work (Answers)
The following daily income figures are based on median annual income figures from the Bureau of Labor Statistics 1998-1999 Occupational Outlook Handbook (assumes 50 weeks @ 5 days a week unless otherwise noted).
- Michael Jordan, $350,000 per game, based on a $35 million contract to play 116 games. This does NOT include the reported $40 million per year that he earned for endorsing various products.
- major league baseball player, $8,250 per game, based on the 1996 average baseball salary of $1,336,609 for playing 162 games. Remember, this is an average for ALL players. First-year players averaged about $176,470 ($1,089 per game), while home-run king Mark McGwire earned $55,555 for an afternoon in the ballpark based on his $9 million contract.
- the President of the United States, $800 per day.
- television actor/actress, $559 was the minimum daily rate for those with speaking parts; HOWEVER, this is a misleading indicator of annual income! The work is erratic; the average earnings for television performers was less than $5,000 per year.
