Chapter 28, Drill b: Practice using intransitive verbs in the passive.

Each of the expressions in parentheses can be expressed by a passive verb used impersonally. Provide the appropriate verb expressions:

Examples:
He returned home. Answer: domum reditum est.
They (are fighting bravely). Answer: fortiter pugnatur.
When the subject is "they" or a "we" etc. which has presumably already been mentioned, no agent is necessary. (They ran) becomes "cursum est."

1. The soldiers set out at dawn; (they arrived)
at the camp early.
(it was arrived)
2. He (trusted the Muses.) Use credo, imperfect.
3. always (milites fought [habitual action, use imperfect])
fiercely.
4. (I was ordered) to go.
5. (Horatius had arrived) at Rome.
6. For a long time (Augustus spoke).
7. (Vergilus was persuaded [completed action; perfect]) to
praise Augustus.
8. After the poetry readings (they returned)
to the country.
Use redeo.
9. (We fled.)
10. After the poetry reading, (they returned)
home. [redeo redire redii reditum]
11. People (ran [snapshot]) this way and that.
12. Horatius avoided the city; (he went back)
to the farm.
Use recedo.
13. Horatius looked for some friends but
already (they had left) Rome.
Use discedo.
14. We are hungry and we (will dine) on the farm.
Use ceno cenare.
15. Always he (trusted the Muses.) Use credo, imperfect.
