We invite you to apply to our summer nurse externship program which is a collaboration between University of Missouri-St. Louis College of Nursing and the BJC HealthCare System. This ten-week program provides the senior nursing student with an outstanding clinical experience at some of the nation's top hospitals!
The participating BJC HealthCare hospitals are leaders in healthcare delivery and have received numerous recognitions. Barnes-Jewish Hospital, an ANCC Magnet hospital whose exceptional quality and unmatched experience, has earned a place on the U.S. News & World Report honor roll of America’s Best Hospitals for 25 consecutive years. St. Louis Children's Hospital is also recognized nationally by U.S. News & World Report, which in 2018 ranked the hospital in 10 specialties. Barnes-Jewish St. Peters Hospital, Missouri Baptist Medical Center and Progress West Hospital are stellar community hospitals that deliver excellent nursing care to a broad-based patient population.
Externs will be mentored by experienced nurses and work in hospitals where the newest medical advances are coupled with excellent nursing care. The weekly seminar sessions are facilitated by UMSL College of Nursing faculty and clinical experts from the participating hospitals and include topics relevant to current practice. Time is also allotted for externs to debrief and share weekly experiences.
