Give to the School of Social Work

Why give?

Support from you allows us to provide accessible, affordable, and high-quality degrees to a diverse, nontraditional student body. It allows us to continually expand opportunities and impact whole communities throughout the St. Louis region and beyond.

GIVE NOW

Impact on Programs, Students, & Faculty

Recognized nationally by the U.S. News and World Report for our world-class graduate program, we continue to build upon our record of academic excellence by engaging in innovative research and preparing professional social work practitioners and scholars to meet the challenges presented by an increasingly diverse and complex world. Rooted in the humanist tradition, we believe that social work is more than a field of study or practice. It is the future.

Where does your gift go?

Our students are at the core of our mission, vision, and values. To that end, we invite you to give to one or more of the following scholarships offered by us to aid in their growth as branches on our expanded family tree:

Beverly Sporleder Jubilee Endowed Scholarship in Social Work

This scholarship was established by Emeritus Professor Beverly Sporleder specifically for students majoring in social work at UMSL. Beverly has devoted her life to social work and remains committed to shaping future practitioners.

Social Work Development Fund

The School of Social Work uses the general fund to support our students by providing experience through exposure. This fund enables students to participate in our annual Jefferson City Legistaltive Tour, take part in Study Abroad programs, and attend student conferences.

Social Work Scholarship Fund

The School of Social Work Scholarship Fund is not an annually awarded fund but is used to support students in need at the discretion of the dean. We have used these funds to help students purchase books, pay for small amounts of tuition that other financial aid will not cover, or support students in financial crisis due to unexpected emergencies.

Victor Hauck Scholarship

This award is established in memory of Victor Hauck, who served as Executive Director of the Evangelical Children’s Home for 33 years. He devoted his life to helping dependent, neglected children. This scholarship is awarded to an outstanding student enrolled in either our BSW or MSW program.

Norman Flax and Joan Hashimi Master's Scholarship in Social Work

The Drs. Norman Flax and Joan Hashimi are founding faculty of the UM-St. Louis social work program. Both are nationally recognized social work educators who have contributed to the social work profession. This scholarship was donated by alumni and friends in honor of their more than 50 years of combined teaching and service in the program. This scholarship is awarded to an outstanding graduate student in their last year of study.

Muriel Pumphrey Scholarship Fund

This scholarship was established in memory of Muriel Pumphrey, an important pioneer in the field of social work and the founder of Social Work at UM-St. Louis. It is awarded to an outstanding senior in our BSW program.

Elaine Rosalie Lawson Memorial Scholarship

This scholarship was established as a memorial to Elaine Rosalie Lawson and is awarded to outstanding students in our MSW program who demonstrate an interest in providing social work services to underserved populations.
