About Us

Welcome to the Trauma, Hope, Resiliency and Interventions for Victims of adverse Experiences (THRIVE) Laboratory at the University of Missouri- St. Louis. The THRIVE lab is broadly focused on how individuals are effected by exposure to traumatic events and stressful life events. We have a particular emphasis on both complex trauma, or chronic, repeated trauma that begins early in life, as well as gun violence. Studies in the lab are largely focused on trauma-exposed children, parents, and families. The THRIVE lab is supported by grants from the National Institute of Health (NIH) and the University of Missouri system.

We believe that it is important to devote specific attention to understanding the unique needs of victims of multiple traumatic events as well as individuals living in under-served communities, particularly children, parents, and families. We endeavor to translate this greater understanding of traumatic stress reactions to help best support these survivors and mitigate trauma-related symptoms more effectively and more efficiently.

The THRIVE lab conducts research projects that aim to:

  • Further delineate the impact of exposure to trauma has on children, adults, parents, and families,
  • Identify protective factors to facilitate resilient outcomes among trauma-exposed populations,
  • Conduct trauma-focused clinical research to improve the treatment outcomes for trauma-exposed individuals and families.
