REGISTERING FOR COURSES

During the Global Triton Welcome week, there will be time set aside for Global Tritons to register for classes.  However, you are allowed to register for classes prior to your arrival to the United States!

 

In order to register for classes prior to arrival, please do the following:

 

  1. Take any placement tests you are required to complete (EAP and/or MATH)
  2. Locate your Academic Advisor via one of the methods below
  3. Look up their email address in the UMSL Directory
  4. Reach out to your Academic Advisor via email to setup a virtual appointment (or in person, if you have already entered the United States)

 

Depending on your academic level and major, you may be able to register prior to arrival.

 

If you are not allowed to register for classes prior to arrival or are not able to register for a full course load, you will have designated time to register for classes during the Global Triton Welcome week.

 

WHO IS YOUR ACADEMIC ADVISOR?

 

  1. Your Academic Advisor’s name can be found in the Triton Portal - listed in the Student Success Team section – using the email address you applied with

 

  1. MyGateway – in MyView in the Student Center Advisor section OR MyConnect in Student Success Team – using your UMSL SSO and Password.

 

  1. Once you have your Academic Advisor’s name, you can look up their email address in the UMSL Directory and setup a virtual advising appointment prior to your arrival to the United States. Some departments prefer for you to arrive to UMSL before they allow you to register for courses. 

 

Graduate students sometimes have a delay in advisor assignment due to the structure of their program.

Once you are registered for your full course load, you can pay your tuition and fees.

Academic advising is a service provided by UMSL where academic advisors assist students in making informed decisions about their educational goals, course selection, and career aspirations. Advisors help students understand the requirements of their degree programs, explore academic opportunities, and develop plans to achieve their academic and professional objectives.

 

You must meet with your academic advisor every semester in order to register for classes, but it is advised to reach out during other times of the semester for more lengthy appointments to discuss long-term degree and career plans.
