This page will provide you the details for the following:
1. Late Arrivals
For students who want to know what happens if they cannot arrive by Monday, January 12, 2026 at 08:00AM CST <UTC - 6> but they still desire to start classes at UMSL in Spring 2026 semester on Tuesday, January 20, 2026.
2. Deferral of your SEVIS Record & Admission to FALL 2026
For students who are unable to enter the US and arrive to UMSL by Monday, January 12, 2026 at 08:00AM CST <UTC - 6> and must defer their admission to August 2026
3. Immediate Transfer of your SEVIS record to UMSL FROM Another University
For students who applied and were granted F-1 visa with I-20 from another institution and entered on the OTHER institution’s I-20 where the student has not yet attended AND wants to attend UMSL in Spring 2026
4. Immediate Transfer of your SEVIS record TO Another University from UMSL
For students who applied and were granted F-1 visa with I-20 from UMSL and entered on their UMSL I-20 where the student has not yet attended UMSL AND want to attend ANOTHER INSTITUTION in Spring 2026
5. No Plans to Attend UMSL
For students who have been admitted to UMSL but will not attend UMSL who have NOT entered the United State OR entered the United States on another institution’s I-20 and Visa.
Please choose appropriate section that applies to your situation and follow detailed directions:
1. Late Arrivals
All international students are required to arrive to UMSL by Monday, January 12, 2026 at 08:00AM CST <UTC - 6>
- No student will be granted permission for a late arrival and no late arrival letters will be issued by UMSL Global.
- The student may choose to take the risk to enter on or after Monday, January 12, 2026 IF the student can get registered for a full load of classes prior to Friday, January 16, 2026 and if they can arrive physically prior to the first day of classes on Tuesday, January 20, 2026.
- If this is not possible, the student must defer to Fall 2026
YOU MUST REPORT TO UMSL GLOBAL in MSC218 by 10:00AM the morning after your arrival in order to check-in officially. If you arrive on the weekend of January 17-19 you must report to UMSL Global on Tuesday, January 20, 2026.
2. Deferral of your SEVIS Record & Admission to SPRING 2026
If you cannot arrive to UMSL by Monday, January 12, 2026 at 08:00AM CST <UTC - 6> you MUST DEFER your admission to Fall 2026.
Students who will be deferring their admission to August 2026 should follow this procedure to defer their admission by 26/January/2026at 23:59PM CST <UTC - 6> in order to maintain the SAME SEVIS ID Number.
Complete the online Enrollment Confirmation Form
- Please answer the question: What is your decision regarding attending UMSL in January - Spring 2026? - I will defer my admission and attend UMSL in August – Fall 2026
- Within five business days, you will receive a follow-up email with directions on how to complete your deferral request for Spring 2026.
After submitting this Enrollment Confirmation Form, you will receive a confirmation email with the following instructions:
- Submit an updated Affidavit of Support for Fall 2026.
- Provide Financial Documents dated 01/January/2026 or later, reflecting the Fall 2026 UMSL tuition rates.
- The above-mentioned documents are mandatory for deferring your enrollment. Submission of the Enrollment Confirmation Form alone will not defer your enrollment.
- These documents must be uploaded to the Triton Portal by 26/January/2026 at 23:59PM CST <UTC - 6>
- Failure to submit the updated Affidavit of Support and new
- Financial Documents by 26/January/2026 will result in the cancellation of your current I-20 SEVIS Record on 27/January/2026.
If you are unable to meet the January 26th deadline, you may still defer your enrollment by submitting the requested documents by 15/July/2026 for Fall 2026. However, you will be issued a new I-20 with a new SEVIS number and will be required to pay a new I-901 SEVIS Fee.
If this is your second time requesting a deferral, you must also submit a new application. If this is your first time requesting a deferral, you do not need to reapply, just submit the above-mentioned documents.
3. Immediate Transfer of your SEVIS record to UMSL FROM Another University
- Find out from the other university what their immediate transfer out procedure and policy is prior to entering the United States
- some universities are now charging a fee for immediate transfer outs
- Enter the United States with the other university’s F-1 Visa, Admission Letter, and I-20
- Follow the other university’s procedure to have the other university’s SEVIS Record transferred to UMSL using SEVIS School Code: KAN214F10131000
- Come immediately to UMSL on Monday, January 12, 2026 for the Global Triton Welcome
- Do not go to the other institution (unless their procedure specifically requires you to do so).
- Most institutions do everything electronically at this point, so it is not necessary to show up at the other institution to transfer out
- Wait for the other institution to transfer your SEVIS record to UMSL.
- Be issued a new I-20 by UMSL Global after the SEVIS record has been transferred from the other institution to UMSL
NOTE: Most institutions do not prioritize immediate transfers. Some schools have one semester attendance policy and will NOT let you transfer out until you attend at least one semester there or will charge a fee for an immediate transfer process request. Make sure you know the other institution's immediate transfer policy.
If you are currently an F-1 student in Continued Attendance at another university in the United States, your transfer is handled by different means. Please complete this Transfer Instruction Sheet and share with your current institution to schedule your SEVIS transfer release date.
4. Immediate Transfer of your SEVIS record TO Another University from UMSL
If you have:
- Received an I-20 from UMSL
- Obtained your F-1 Visa for UMSL
- Have not attended UMSL
- Have decided to attend ANOTHER UNIVERSITY immediately
DO NOT COME TO UMSL if you will not be attending UMSL.
- UMSL Global’s entire procedure for immediate transfer is electronic. Please go immediately to the other university and start the transfer process electronically.
Directions
- Enter the United States with UMSL’s F-1 Visa, Admission Letter, and I-20
- Go directly to the OTHER UNIVERSITY. DO NOT come to UMSL if you will not be attending UMSL.
Complete the 2 online forms:
- Enrollment Confirmation Form Please answer the question: What is your plan regarding attending UMSL in January - Spring 2026? please answer: I will not attend UMSL and will not defer my admission
- Immediate Transfer Out Form
After submission of both forms, further directions will be distributed within 5 business days to the personal email address you provide on the Transfer Out Request Form Submission.
This request must be made BEFORE 23/January/2026 - If you enter on am UMSL I-20, do not report to UMSL nor request an immediate transfer out by 23/January/2026, your SEVIS Record will be terminated on 24/January/2026.
In the meantime, please prepare the following items:
- Admission Letter from Institution you are transferring to (pdf file)
- I-94 form - arrival record to the U.S. - PDF of this form can be obtained here: https://i94.cbp.dhs.gov
- Copy of your passport information page (must be clear and legible)
- Copy of your F-1 Visa Stamp from your passport (must be clear and legible)
- US Address where you are staying (this can be a temporary US address as you are in transition) - THIS ADDRESS WILL BE CHECKED FOR AUTHENTICITY
NOTE:
- UMSL Global strongly encourages you to enter on the OTHER UNIVERSITY’S I-20 if that is where you plan to attend so you do not have to go through the transfer process.
- UMSL Global DOES NOT and WILL NOT prioritize immediate transfers to other universities.
- Do not call multiple times, or send multiple texts or emails requesting the transfer, they will not be answered
- UMSL Global will do our utmost to process your request in a reasonable time. However, UMSL Global will be serving students who will be attending UMSL as our priority.
5. No Plans to Attend UMSL
- If you have decided not to attend UMSL, please let us know by completing the Enrollment Confirmation Form
- Please answer the question: What is your plan regarding attending UMSL in January - Spring 2026 please answer: I will not attend UMSL and will not defer my admission
- By completing this form and informing UMSL you are not coming to UMSL you will cease to receive correspondences from UMSL and will ensure we are handling your file appropriately.
