Immunization and Health Insurance

Immunizations

As a new international student, you must submit your immunization records to UMSL Health Services if you intend to live in Oak Hall or University Meadows. You are advised to submit your records even if you live off-campus.

You can submit proof of immunizations online using the Health Services portal or by e-mailing your records to healthservices@umsystem.edu. You may want to bring a copy of your immunization records in English when you travel to the US. For more information, please call or email Health Services.

If you need an immunization, you can do so at the UMSL Health Services clinic after you arrive on-campus.

Required Immunizations and Vaccines

You are required to complete a TB screening online using the Health Services portal. You will also need to do additional testing with UMSL Health Services upon arrival.

You are required to have a Measles, Mumps, Rubella (MMR) Vaccine and Meningococcal Vaccine prior to arrival in your home country OR upon your arrival to the United States.

All required immunizations can be received at a designated time during Global Triton Welcome Thursday, August 15th from 1:00pm-3:00pm.  Appointments can be made through the Health Services portal or by calling 314-935-5671.

Health Insurance

The University of Missouri System has contracted with Anthem Student Health (effective August 1, 2021) to provide health insurance for international students.

As an international student, you will be automatically enrolled in the UMSL student health insurance upon enrollment in classes each semester. Insurance fees will be billed to your student account and will appear on your monthly billing statement.

If you receive any immunizations at the UMSL Health Clinic during Global Triton Welcome, the clinic staff will help you fill out a claim with your insurance for reimbursements. Please note that the insurance reimbursement process takes time. Expect to pay up front for any vaccines you receive at the UMSL clinic upon your arrival and receive a reimbursement for these costs later in the semester.

Dependent Spouse and Child Coverage

This student health insurance plans is also available for dependents spouses and children at an additional cost.  You must enroll your dependents separately by the deadline; usually 1-2 weeks after the start of the semester.

Student Health Insurance Waivers

Health insurance waivers are only granted for the following reasons:

  1. You are a sponsored student and are covered by a government-sponsored health insurance program;
  2. You are covered under UMSL's employee health insurance through your employment or that of a family member;
  3. You are a short term J-1 exchange student;
  4. You are a recipient of the Ministry of Education and Technical and Vocational Training (Bahamas) scholarship;
  5. You will be outside the United States for the entire semester.

All waiver requests must be completed by the end of the second week of classes. Please note that completion of a waiver request does not guarantee that a waiver will be granted.

A detailed description of the insurance coverage will be available in early August each year. For more information please contact webbjj@umsl.edu.
