"Lost in Space Fantasy" features my robot, Robbie. He was a Christmas present, and a valued addition to my fantasy world. When he had batteries in him, his eyes and mouth would light up and he would shuffle slowly around. But the value of a toy is not what a toy does, but what a child does with the toy. Minus his batteries, ignoring his mechanical function, he became a real robot to me. I actually remember imagining him bigger than me, and protecting me the way the robot did in the "lost in Space" TV show. So in this picture, he stands in a protective posture near me and my sister Kay. He stands in my office now, and I am constantly amazed at how small he actually is, since he still - even now - seems bigger than life.

Technical Stuff:

The foreground images come from an old slide that my father made, and Robby was photographed for this project in the same light as the older slide. Both images were placed on Photo CD's for easy access. I made the rocket ship in Ray Dream Designer and it carries the "Space Cadet" insignia on its wings. The far mountains were from a landscape image I made in Nova Scotia, and the stars are from a random "noise" filter in Photoshop, copied & enlarged & blurred over & over till it looked like stars. (This image has been used as a starry sky in all the images that called for something like that.)
