Catch a Falling Star
or
Saving for a Rainy Day

Rainy days can certainly put a damper on a day at the beach or ballpark.  They can also be great opportunities for quite time -- reading, playing cards, visiting a new web site, or finishing homework.

So when rainy days come, and they will, being prepared and willing to adapt can make all the difference in the world.

To help your child understand that sometimes things happen that we didn't count on, read and discuss some of the following books together.

  • Three Little Pigs (any version)
  • Alexander, Who Used to be Rich Last Sunday by Judith Viorst
  • Alexander and Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day by Judity Viorst
  • A Chair for My Mother by Vera Williams
  • The Three Sillies by Kathryn Hewitt

Use these stories (and your own experiences) to emphasize that it's wise to expect the unexpected!  You never know when you might lose your money or the wolf might show up at your door, so be prepared!
