I want to welcome you to the UM-St. Louis School of Optometry Contact Lens Web site. The purpose of this site is to educate students and practitioners; specifically clinical contact lens applications. Contact Lenses represent-and will continue to represent-a significant source of revenue to the average optometric practice and great satisfaction to the practitioner. Our intent is to constantly update this site to provide info, clinical cases, and graphics such that the practitioner can feel comfortable in the material selection, fitting and problem-solving of those spherical and specialty lens designs.

The first option pertains to lecture outlines and supplemental material provided to students in the Contact Lens I course. This includes such topics as contact lens optics, preliminary evaluation, RGP material selection, fitting, care, problem-solving, and soft lens fitting and care.

The second option pertains to lecture outlines and supplemental material provided to the student provided in the advanced contact lens course. This includes such topics as soft lens problem-solving, extended wear, toric fitting, bifocal fitting, post-surgical fitting, keratoconus, and practice management.

The third option pertains to clinical cases. This consists of cases pertaining to spherical specialty lens designs. The lens design, fitting and problem-solving of these designs will be emphasized in these cases. These cases will also have pertinent photos and video images to help illustrate the lens designs and conditions represented in the case.

The fourth option pertains to practical information such as the Mandell-Moore fitting guide.

The fifth option pertains to important links to other web sites, specifically such organizations as the AOA, American Academy of Optometry, the RGP Lens Institute and several contact lens companies sites will be here.

On behalf of the contact lens clinic at the University of Missouri-St. Louis School of Optometry, I hope that you find this site to be beneficial in our understanding and application of contact lenses.
