Satellite Leadership Academy
Dr. Murphy has been a member of the State's Leadership Academy for over fourteen years. The Satellite Leadership Academy was established in 1987. It is the parent organization to nine Principal Academies located at Regional Professional Development Centers (RPDC's) throughout Missouri. Sponsored by the Missouri Department of Elementary and Secondary Education, the Academies provide quality professional development for Missouri school leaders. Using the Interstate School Leaders Licensure Consortium (ISLLC) Standards as the program's goals, participants are provided unique professional development opportunities through school improvement, professional growth, collegiality, and personal improvement.
Upon completion of the year long program, participants will have completed the ISLLC School Leadership Self Inventory and have the tools to develop a personal improvement plan based on assessment data, profiles, and feedback. In addition, participants will acquire basic knowledge regarding change processes, data collection and analysis, and professional development for teaching and learning. The focus of this sustained program is to develop school leaders who can positively and significantly impact student performance through effective school improvement practices.
The Academy also provides an Outdoor Leadership Experience which focuses on team building and places participants outside their comfort levels. It is always the favorite activity of the year.
As a member of the State's Leadership Team, Murphy attended the Summer Institute at Harvard's Principals' Center. The focus of the summer institute was "accountability."
