REVIEW - ................................. It's almost a year later and why would anyone want to join a discussion group on Bill Clinton's campaign for the Presidency? He won, didn't he? Though this list is misnamed and hyperactive, it is also robust, fascinating, and to the right subscribers, of incalculable value. I'd rather it were called the "Friends of Bill" discussion list. Anyway, my perverse streak likes the gentle sarcasm implied by continuing a list under the name "Campaigning for President . . ." a year after Bill's (first) election. I confess to not knowing what real Washington, DC insiders feel like, but being assailed by CLINTON@MARIST made me at least think I was getting inside information. Yes. This list will destroy those of you with wimpy e-mail storage capacities. But, if you are e-tough, and you REALLY want the latest source material from the White House, CLINTON is an active and superb conduit. Press releases, speeches, the entire text of the North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA) delivered in dozens of palatable packages. This information is scattered throughout the Internet at numerous other locations (e.g., the gopher at wiretap.spies.com carries Clinton Press Releases), but by subscribing to this list the mountain comes to your electronic doorstep. Discussion takes place on a broad range of topics, many of which seemed out of scope for the list; that is, out of scope until I realized that there was no real defined scope in the first place! The state of the American education system is worth debating, but I had a problem with understanding why such a vigorous discussion was happening on this list. The arguments are cogent and lively. Contributors appear to be academics, some in the Washington, DC area, able to supply personal insights. However, the list personality that I observed was much too diffuse for my refined palate (sly wink suffixed). Summarizing: If you value timely source material from the White House, you'll put up with the negatives of this list, the largest being an unavoidably large bulk of information (the White House isn't noted for brevity). You'll feel like you know Bill, Al, David, Rachel, and the rest of the gang in no time at all. - Raleigh C.
