The role of the librarian is to facilitate this entire process. The Internet, and Internet search engines are only relevant in the context of a given problem, and an understanding of what a given tool can do, and how it does it. |
The rest of the universe tends to focus on TOOLS FIRST. "What computer do I use?" or "Where on the Internet can I find?" are typical questions. The REAL question to be asked is "What do I use to find out about X?" Deciding to use the Internet for research before understanding its relevance to a given problem is akin to using an electric screwdriver to brush one's teeth. |
