Simplifications from Jaynes ‘57
Today I wanted to talk about implications for introductory students of only one of many simplifications that Ed managed to publish: his well-known 1957 papers on “Information Theory and Statistical Mechanics” (Phys. Rev. 106, 4, 620-630; and Phys. Rev. 108, 2, 171-190).
The review of the first paper, that Ed had framed*, you may notice focusses only on whether the “point-of-view” was new, ignoring assertions that the path to reach that view was original, correct, and possibly revolutionary!
