circular nanocone
Even larger pentagon-based carbon nanocone put together
with Steffen Weber's applet: Again it amazes me how
a single pentagon causes what would otherwise be a totally flat
hexagonal network to fold up into the shape of an umbrella?
In this case, however, the umbrella is conical instead of
5-sided.
What angles between edge-on sheets show up in projection here?
Also, would this form of cone be more likely (than
the
pentacone form) to be created during addition of carbon atoms
to such structures from a gas or a liquid phase?
How do the angles seen in edge-on projection above compare to the angles
between line segments in this image of strange unlayered graphene
found in soot particles
condensed in the atmosphere of red giant stars, long before the formation of
the solar system we live in today?
