The Master of Social Work (MSW) at UMSL prepares its graduates for professional social work practice. Graduates will have the knowledge, skills, and values for direct social work practice with individuals, families, and older adults or the knowledge, skills, and values to effectively manage and lead human service agencies. Social justice principles guide graduates in their practice at all levels of intervention, particularly with persons who are oppressed because of their color, ethnicity, gender, age, sexual orientation or physical or mental ability.
To assist the professional development and educational opportunities of eligible and qualified Compass Health employees, UMSL provides a Master of Social Work degree program in partnership, including relevant academic support services to ensure student achievement and degree completion.

The application deadline for spring 2023 has been extended to November 1, 2022.
The deadline for Fall admission is March 1st of the same year. All application materials, including transcripts and recommendations, must be received by the School of Social Work by that date.
The Master of Social Work program helps graduate students advance their careers in social welfare agencies, schools, hospitals, correctional institutions, social action and community organizations, daycare, and geriatric rehabilitation, and residential centers.
The demand for social workers will increase 13 percent from 2019 to 2029, much faster than the average for all occupations, according to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, making social work an in-demand career with meaning.
