South JC Penney demolition and Patient Care Center progress

transform logo

Dear University Community,

UMSL Facilities Management continues to move our Transform UMSL initiatives forward as we reimagine and redefine our campus footprint through targeted investments. Here are some videos and images that showcase our recent progress.

View the latest renderings for the new Richter Family Welcome and Alumni Center

Our partners at the Lamar Johnson Collaborative developed new renderings this past week to showcase the vision for the new Richter Family Welcome and Alumni Center to our campus and community. This past week our partners at Hillsdale Demolition provided demo services for the south section of the J.C. Penney Building. Please note that we have placed a fenced perimeter around this section of the building while this work continues but north J.C. Penney Building remains accessible through the northeast and northwest entrances as well as the loading dock to access print and mail services.

Patient Care Center completion on track for the fall semester

We have completed a build-out of the second floor of our Patient Care Center to become the main hub of clinical practice for the College of Optometry. The new space will allow students to engage in pre-clinical training in the same place as their in-person training at UMSL Eye Care. This project included developing classroom and skill room spaces to support the optometry program. Workers began moving furniture and equipment into the building this month and the project is on track for the space to open ahead of the fall semester.
