Improving SNAP access through EITC free tax service for low-income working families with young children
The Improving SNAP Access program is a two-year project that will test a policy innovation aimed at increasing the participation of earned income tax credit (EITC)-eligible families with children ages 0-8 in the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP). Previous research has shown that many families who receive the EITC tax credit are eligible for SNAP, but for various reasons do not take advantage of this program.
With the help of community partner Gateway EITC Community Coalition , data will be collected at several locations in the area where free tax preparation assistance is provided. They hope to recruit 500 families to participate in a survey about their household food security and financial needs. Families who are eligible and wish to enroll in SNAP will be able to do so with the aid of the St. Louis Area Foodbank.
Are you or someone you know interested in participating in SNAP? If you can answer yes to these questions, you may be eligible to participate in the study.
