Flex Work Series: Flex Work 101 for Supervisors

During this session for supervisors, we will answer questions like what is flex work and what are the different types? Why is offering flex work important and is it really worth the extra effort? We will also offer strategies for determining whether flex work is appropriate for your direct reports, communicating flex work decisions, establishing and managing a team schedule that includes flex workers, evaluating flex-worker performance, and fostering team cohesion on a team with flex workers.

What makes some positions more or less suitable for flex work than others? We will also offer strategies for having conversations about flex work with your supervisor.

Stand Alone Sessions

FMLA & Shared Leave

During this session, you'll learn more about the Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA) and how it is administered at the university. FMLA is a federal law that provides employees the right to take a leave of absence for family and medical reasons as well as leave for military families while maintaining job protection. The session will also highlight the university's Shared Leave Program, which enables eligible employees to donate accrued vacation benefits to a pool to be used for other employees who have experienced a catastrophic event.

Wellness Team

There are numerous benefits and resources that are a part of the university’s UnitedHealthcare (UHC) benefits package. In this session, you’ll meet with UHC representatives who work specifically with UMSL employees. They will share resources and answer questions about the wellness events and services that are available to you.

Sharpen Your Saw: Carving out Time for Professional Development

In this fast-paced environment it can be difficult to carve out time for your own growth and development. But taking time to sharpen your saw will make you more effective and save you time in the long run. Join us to discuss strategies for prioritizing your own growth and to preview what is available to you in Percepio.

Performance Appraisals & Self-Appraisals

Performance appraisals and self-appraisals are just getting started. Join us for this session to help get prepared. During this session we will have discussion about calibrating our approach to enhance clarity and consistency in the way performance appraisals are conducted across the university. This session will also highlight the ways implicit bias can influence performance appraisals and become a barrier to consistency and equity. Finally, this session will provide strategies for crafting feedback in a constructive way.
