Innovation Labs

So many complex challenges face society today -- from artificial intelligence, healthcare inequity, disease, and poverty, to climate change, biodiversity loss, energy, and more.

We need new approaches. New solutions.

But that requires multiple ideas and many perspectives, including yours! UMSL Innovation Labs leverages researchers’ unique knowledge, experiences, and opinions no matter their discipline to find and bring to life viable ways to address global challenges.

UMSL Innovation Labs brings together innovative faculty researchers from across disciplines to think big, using an industry-based structure, to develop new solutions to identified needs.

Goals:

  • Solutions
    • Bring new solutions to society to address today’s biggest problems. Solutions might be discoveries/inventions, copyrightable works, new processes/methodologies, policies, etc., etc.
  • Research
    • New collaborations across disciplines at UMSL and beyond.
    • Increased research funding through multi-disciplinary grants awarded to UMSL faculty.
  • Innovation, Commercialization
    • Increased number of patentable inventions submitted in invention disclosures to the University.
    • Increased number of UMSL patents and copyrights available for licensing, further development, marketing and distribution by industry.
    • Increased number of products and services licensed to industry to solve problems facing society.
    • Increased number of faculty and student inventors, including women and under-represented populations.
  • Entrepreneurship
    • An increased understanding among UMSL investigators, including graduate students and post-docs, of entrepreneurial thinking in all scenarios.
