UMSL has a range galleries, cultural events, sculptures, and other related assets that can be enjoyed by not only those on campus, but the general public as well. UMSL recognizes the importance of preserving and the celebrating the arts as a whole.
Touhill Performing Arts Center: The Blanche M. Touhill Performing Arts Center is a landmark performance facility on the campus of the University of Missouri-St. Louis (UMSL). This building is open to the public and provides space for campus events, academic programs, and regional arts organizations. dance, theatre, music, festivals, and special events.
Arianna String Quartet: The University of Missouri-St. Louis Department of Music is extremely proud and fortunate to have the Arianna Quartet, a world-renowned professional string quartet, on our permanent faculty. UMSL is the only university in the state of Missouri with a first-class professional string quartet in residence. The quartet maintains an extremely busy schedule, performing and teaching both in this country and abroad. In addition, all four members serve as a full-time faculty professors of their respective instruments.
Des Lee Fine Arts Education Collaborative: The Des Lee Fine Arts Education Collaborative is dedicated to enhancing the quality, influence, attitudes, and accessibility of fine arts by connecting educators, artists, and performers with St Louis students. Special attention is given to underserved populations. The Collaborative is currently made up of 16 St. Louis area arts agencies and 17 St. Louis area school districts.
Community programs include educational fine arts outreach programs and concerts, student concerts, clinics, and masterclasses. The Collaborative also provides support for music educators throughout all career stages, offering professional development, facilitated mentoring support, and online resources.
Fine Arts Building Open Studio: In collaboration with the CAMSTL's city-wide open studio program, the department of Art and Design welcomes art lovers to visit our department and see all the great work being done by our amazing students and faculty!
Mercantile Library Art Museum: The collection located in the Mercantile Library on campus includes paintings, prints, drawings, sculptures, decorative arts and folk art. Emphasis is on 19th and 20th century regional artists including George Caleb Bingham, Thomas Hart Benton, Oscar Berninghaus, Charles Deas, and Harriet Hosman.
Grace’s Place: Grace's Place is a museum about computers and information technology. The museum has a range of exhibits from early tubes and analog computers, to examples of the growth in home and microcomputers over the years. Many computers are disassembled to display individual components, motherboards and more. Interesting artifacts from a variety of computing venues round out the collection. This museum is named in memory of computing pioneer and Naval officer, Dr. Grace Murray Hopper. This museum is located in Express Scripts Hall on the second floor.
Gallery 210@FAB: Gallery 210@FAB exhibits a range of work by artists of regional and national significance. The exhibitions are curated by members of the Studio Art Faculty and complement the teaching emphases of the Fine Arts program. Gallery 210@FAB is located in the Fine Arts Building.
The Nicholas and Theodora Matsakis Hellenic Culture Center: The Nicholas and Theodora Matsakis Hellenic Culture Center at the University of Missouri-St. Louis is a place where scholars, students, and community members are welcome to immerse themselves in the culture and history of Greece – both international and locally. The Center is a resource for political, educational, cultural, travel, and business information. This is located in 210 Lucas Hall.
German Cultural Center: The German Culture Center, part of UMSL Global, is a "cultural institute" of GOETHE- INSTITUT. The GCC has become a key institution for area German teachers, for the German American community, and for those in the general public who wish to know more about German life, language and culture. Students from the University of Missouri-St. Louis also make great use of the Center’s resources, including bi-weekly coffee hours. This is located in Social Science/Business Building Suite 427.
International Studies Resource Library: The UMSL Global Resource Library offers teaching and reference material on world cultures and global issues to educators and librarians throughout Missouri. The collection includes books, films, music, posters, curriculum units, traveling exhibitions and cultural artifact kits.
