The Singing Actor’s Workshop (EN PER 1560)
Formerly UMSL’s Opera Workshop ensemble, The Singing Actor’s Workshop will be a training and performance course for the 21st century vocal artist. Each semester will feature a different project, and we will explore diverse vocal genres, making sure UMSL vocalists have a generous foundation of experiences. The vision for projects in the coming years include: Musical Theater, Opera, and Operetta productions and scenes, Jazz & Cabaret unit, and a Song Salon unit.
Performance Skills Workshop, Fall 2024: Our artistry as singers extends beyond vocal beauty and musicianship. It encompasses the visual, the theatrical, and the magic of stirring emotions in audiences. In Fall 2024, The Singing Actor’s Workshop will be devoted to honing practical performance skills. Students will learn the fundamentals of acting, how to create believable and three-dimensional characters in performance, and how to use the musical score and libretto as a jumping-off point. We will finish the semester with a unit on audition techniques. Students will be assigned repertoire across genres (including classical, art song, opera, Musical Theatre, and more) to work with as they expand their acting and performance skills. An on-your-feet course, the Singing Actor’s Workshop is a fun and engaging experience dedicated to helping you perform with heightened confidence and authenticity. Any voice major or minor may register for the course without audition.
The course is EN PER 1560, and I hope you'll register and join us for this tool-based course in performance skills this Fall.
