Claire Workinger is Instructor of Oboe at the University of Missouri - St. Louis as well as at Washington University in St. Louis. Concurrently, she performs with the United States Air Force Band of Mid-America at Scott Air Force Base where she is a member of the concert band and Midwest Winds woodwind quintet.
An experienced music educator, Claire has taught oboe, bassoon, oboe reed making, oboe repair, and master classes to beginners, university students, and all levels in between. Prior to her positions at UMSL and Washington University, she was the Adjunct Professor of Double Reeds at the University of Mary Washington and Teaching Fellow at the University of North Texas.
On modern oboe, Claire has performed with ensembles around the USA, including the Fort Wayne Philharmonic, Dallas Wind Symphony, South Arkansas Symphony, Avanti Orchestra, Ars Nova Chamber Orchestra, Sherman Symphony, and the Old Bridge Chamber Orchestra. Also, as a practitioner of historically informed performance, she has performed on Baroque oboe with the Denton Bach Society and Washington’s Camerata. Claire’s playing can be heard on numerous recordings for the GIA WindWorks and Mark Masters labels, and she also maintains an interest in oboe adjustment and repair after spending more than a year as Oboe Finisher for Fox Products Corp.
Claire holds a Master of Music degree from the University of North Texas. Her principal teachers include Dr. Charles Veazy, Jelena Dirks, Joseph DeLuccio, Ray Still, and Heather Mallory.
