Except for sabbaticals and leaves, Ray worked his entire academic career at UMSL, starting in 1966 until his retirement in 2003. Along the way, Ray served as a department chair and was instrumental in growing the Computer Science component. Ray was always into mixing mathematics, arts and computers, developing animation systems for TV broadcasting and doing art shows to display and sell his artwork. After retiring, Ray established an endowed scholarship for the department.
