Born in 1939 in Mexico City to two Saint Louis natives, William Connett grew up in St. Louis. He attended John Burroughs School, Georgetown University, and the University of Chicago where he received his Ph. D. in 1969 (thesis advisor Antony Zygmund). His research has been in classical analysis (special functions, singular integrals, multiplier theories, and measure algebras) and numerical analysis (grid generation, flow visualization, and computational fluid dynamics). He is also an enthusiastic statistician, specializing in the applications of statistics to biology.
Dr. Connett spent almost his entire academic career at the University of Missouri in St. Louis, and since 2002 has been a Research Professor (Emeritus). The only exceptions were a sabbatical at the University of Washington in Seattle (1978-80) and a visiting professorship at the University of Leuven (2006). One reason for his deep affection for the campus at UMSL is the program that he, his colleagues, and his students created here. Another reason may be the fact that he is the only member of the faculty to have been employed as a caddy at the former Bellerieve Country Club, where the campus is currently located.
