ABSTRACT: Financial ledger for the I.O.O.F. Excelsior Lodge No. 18.
SCOPE: This ledger contains records of financial transactions for the I.O.O.F. Excelsior Lodge No. 18, dating between 1904 and 1922. Several pages also include signed approvals by auditing committees, and a letter to the lodge’s secretary is tucked between two pages. A label for the St. Louis-based F.A. Wagenfuehr Bookbinding Company is pasted to the inside front cover. The name of the lodge and a Three Links symbol are also stamped on the front of the ledger.
EXTENT: Approximately 144 pages.
HISTORY: The Independent Order of Odd Fellows (I.O.O.F.) is an international fraternal organization originally derived from the England-based Order of Odd Fellows. The Excelsior Lodge No. 18 was housed in the Odd Fellows Hall at the northwest corner of 4th and Locust Streets in downtown St. Louis.
