ABSTRACT: Photographs of street scenes in India, 1945.

SCOPE: This collection contains photographs of local people and places across several areas of British-controlled India, including Assam, Calcutta, and Karachi. The images depict activities like street dentistry and tea vending in addition to geographic points of interest. Most of the photographs are dated 1945 and stamped with photo credits for J. Zahorsky of Roebling, New Jersey. The accompanying envelope indicates the photographs were mailed from Zahorsky to Stanley Weintraub in the Bronx, New York.

ACCESS: This collection can be viewed on-site in the Rare Book and Manuscripts Reading Room.  Some of the material may be photocopied, digitally scanned or photographed, subject to condition and other access restrictions.
