M-549 Arnold, Maybelle Home Economics Scrapbook

ABSTRACT: Home economics scrapbook for Gleason High School student Maybelle Arnold.

SCOPE: This scrapbook was compiled between 1930 and 1933 by Maybelle Arnold, a student at Gleason High School in Gleason, Tennessee. It focuses on her work for a home economics class, though other subjects are also represented. The pages contain stitch and fabric samples, design sketches, numerous newspaper and magazine clippings, and a lengthy section entitled “French Scrapbook by Maybelle Arnold-Pat Trevathan Inc.” The green front cover includes a large printed illustration that is filled with several handwritten notes and drawings, and several  paper doll cutouts have been tucked into the back cover. Both the exterior and interior of the front cover list the student’s address as St. Louis, Missouri.
