M-544 Ried, Martha Friendship Album

ABSTRACT: Friendship album for Martha Ried.

SCOPE: This album is filled with autographs from the friends of Martha M. Ried. The first inscription indicates the album was a gift from Matilda J. Ried, likely Martha’s mother. The autographs, which are dated between 1863 and the 1890s, include original sentiments in addition to some popular contemporary poetry. Several of the signers list residences in Illinois, Nebraska, and Indiana. The pages also include five engravings of women and a few mementos, such as a ribbon for an annual convention in Danville, Illinois. The red covers are labeled “The Souvenir Album” and feature a gilt design.

EXTENT: Approximately 88 pages.
