ABSTRACT: Letter from Mayor Vincent C. Schoemehl, Jr. regarding downtown revitalization in St. Louis.
SCOPE: This collection consists of a letter from Mayor Vincent C. Schoemehl, Jr. to Edward A. Ruesing, President of Downtown St. Louis, Inc. The letter, dated December 28, 1989, details efforts to revitalize the city of St. Louis during the 1980s as well as goals for the 1990s. Topics covered in the letter include employment, crime, population, homeless services, healthcare, public education, airport expansion, light rail transit, convention industry, arts district, and a sports arena. A 1990 memo, in which Ruesing highlights the importance of the correspondence, is attached to the front of the letter.
