Abstract: Bank account book denoting the Second Bank of Philadelphia's daily resources and liabilities for the year 1871
Scope and Content note: This collection consists of one account book measuring 676 pages, with four printed circulars, dated 1871, each one page, tipped into the front matter of the book. The circulars are regarding the "Notice. Redemption of 5-20 Bonds in 1862." Three of the circulars are from the United States Treasury Department, while one is from the banking establishment Jay Cooke & Co.
The account book lists the bank's daily resources and liabilities for the entire year of 1871. To the pre-printed categories such as "Loans," "Funds," "Real Estate," "Stockholders," and "Demand," an extra handwritten category of "City Warrants" as well as the occasional entries "Taxes" and "U. S. Taxes" have been added. A separate section at the end of the account book provides the daily totals and averages for each month of the year for loans, expenses, deposits, etc. Two additional pages report "Averages for six months ending June 30th" and "...December 31st" for the years 1864-1871.
