Abstract: The St. Louis 2004 Collection contains the working documents and related materials of the St. Louis 2004 community-based, not-for-profit organization.

Historical note: St. Louis 2004 was a not-for-profit, community-based organization founded in 1996. A major goal of the project was a year-long celebration of the city in 2004. Other goals included launching major civic improvements throughout the region. To this aim, St. Louis 2004 consisted of many working groups and roundtables, and solicited much input from the community. Working Groups and roundtables included Sustainable Neighborhoods; Downtown Revitalization; Safe Places for Kids; Regional Park and Greenway System; Facing Racism and Discrimination; Combating Youth Gang Violence; A Health Action Team; Hate Crimes; Clean Air; Diversity in Employment; Black Leadership; A Museum of American Culture; Citizen Action Team; Arts Task Force; Neighborhood Information Exchange Centers; and a Volunteerism Task Force.

Scope and Content note: Collection M-373 contains records, audio and video tape, and realia related to the St. Louis 2004 organization.

The records consist of newspaper clippings, organizational records, and reports regarding St. Louis 2004's points of emphasis, including, but not limited to: Sustainable Neighborhoods; Downtown Revitalization; Safe Places for Kids; Regional Park and Greenway System; Facing Racism and Discrimination; Combating Youth Gang Violence; A Health Action Team; Hate Crimes; Clean Air; Diversity in Employment; Black Leadership; A Museum of American Culture; Citizen Action Team; Arts Task Force; Neighborhood Information Exchange Centers; the Jefferson National Expansion Monument; and a Volunteerism Task Force.

Audio and Video are tapes and videotapes of St. Louis 2004 representatives' media appearances, as well as related stories.

There is a small amount of material related to other cities, reports and similar resources having to do with urban revitalization of places such as Pittsburgh, Alton (Il.), and Indianapolis.

Arrangement note: The St. Louis 2004 Collection is arranged mostly to the box level, and in some cases, to the record group level. The collection is split into three series. Series 1 is newspaper clippings related to the organization. Series 2 is the organization's operational records. Series 3 consists of audio and video related to the organization.
