Abstract: The R.H. Dick Collection consists of photographs, sketches, personal correspondence with artists and galleries, gallery brochures and ephemera, personal writings and notes on the artwork of Robert H. Dick. The Collection covers Dick's artwork and sculptures as well as other artists who inspired Dick and his work.
Biographical note: R. H. Dick is a native of Missouri, born in Kansas City. He holds a bachelor of Science in Education and a Masters in American History from Central Missouri State University. Graduate work was completed in French History and Economics at the University of Missouri at Columbia. He has done additional work at Harvard, Yale, Columbia (New York), and at the Sorbonne University in Paris, France. As an artist working in both oil on canvas and in bronze he has been the recipient of numerous awards, and has had several successful one-man exhibitions. He co-authored the book, An American Art Colony: The Art and Artist of Ste. Genevieve, Missouri 1930-1940, which won the Missouri Governor's Award in 2005. He lives in St. Louis Missouri.
Scope and Content note: The R.H. Dick Collection consists of photographs, sketches, personal correspondence with artists and galleries, gallery brochures and ephemera, personal writings and notes on the artwork of Robert H. Dick. The Collection covers Dick's artwork and sculptures as well as other artists who inspired Dick and his work.
The photographs are of Dick's work and the making of his artwork and sculptures, and his travels to the Southwest. The correspondence writings are with galleries where Dick displayed and sold his work as well as correspondence with other artists. Personal writings about Dick himself, and of his work. Also included is an extensive collection of ephemera of gallery brochures where Dick's works were displayed as well as artists who inspired Dick.
