Biographical/Historical note: KSTL was the brainchild of James Grove, president of Grove Laboratories. The station first came on the air June 4, 1948 at 690 AM, and in April, 1960 added an FM station at 98.1 on the dial. Originally, programming consisted of a broad section of music. Local newspapers provided the news for the station, and KSTL also provided its listening area with "Who's Who in St. Louis" a daily segment featuring interviews with local St. Louisians, and "The St. Louis Forum," a weekly program to discuss local news and issues. Later programming also included weather reports, farm and livestock reports, and DJ shows. KSTL was sold by Radio St. Louis, Inc., to Crawford Communications in 1994.
