SCOPE: The archives includes minutes of the corporation, loan records and correspondence from the 1960s through the 1980s primarily and spans the era when this savings and loan company was a leader in community development and housing matters. The collection offers a glimpse of the origin, rise and decline of the savings and loan industry in St. Louis.

EXTENT: 20 linear feet of archivally boxed documents and records.

HISTORY & PROVENANCE: This collection was donated to the Mercantile Library by company leaders to preserve the history of one of the most important and profitable of the post-war savings and loan companies in St. Louis.

ACCESS: This collection is available for on-site use only in the Rare Book and Manuscripts Reading Room. Some of the material in Special Collection M-136 may be photocopied, digitally scanned or photographed, subject to condition. For collections marked limited access, researchers are advised to contact the library at least three business days in advance of their visit to submit a request to view the physical material.

Special Collection M-136 is arranged chronologically by year in bound corporate ledgers.

Researchers are advised to call ahead concerning changes in hours due to University intersessions and holidays. The St. Louis Mercantile Library is located on levels one and two of the Thomas Jefferson Library building.
