SCOPE: Maps from around the world the collection is divided into the following series
Series 1: World. Contains maps of the world or of areas larger than continents, also contains oceanic charts and maps.
Series 2: Africa. Maps of Africa or of smaller locations on the continent.
Series 3: Asia. Maps of Asia or of smaller locations on the continent.
Series 4: Europe. Maps of Europe or of smaller locations on the continent.
Series 5: North America. Maps of North America or of smaller locations on the continent.
Series 6: South America. Maps of South America or of smaller locations on the continent.
Series 7: Arctic and Antarctic, maps of the polar regions.

EXTENT: Approximately 225 maps, of many ages, sizes and types at last inventory. Please contact the learn about more recent acquisitions.
HISTORY: Since its inception, the St. Louis Mercantile library has sought to collect maps of all types. Accumulated through donation and purchase, this collection is only beginning to be fully organized. Many maps housed at the Mercantile Library have been entered into the catalog, and to some extent are still accessed in that way. However following the library restructuring facilitated by the affiliation with the University of Missouri--St. Louis many of the world maps have are being removed and placed in this collection.
ACCESS: This collection is available for on-site use only in the Rare Book and Manuscripts Reading Room. Some of the material in Special Collection M-249 may be photocopied, digitally scanned or photographed, subject to condition. For collections marked limited access, researchers are advised to contact the library at least three business days in advance of their visit to submit a request to view the physical material.

Researchers are advised to call ahead concerning changes in hours due to University intersessions and holidays. The St. Louis Mercantile Library is located on levels one and two of the Thomas Jefferson Library building.
