From New Maps of Missouri & Kansas Showing the Railroads Completed and Projected (1868), a rare set of maps published by the Western Farm and Immigration Company of St. Louis. This firm also published the Western Quarterly, which was advertised to "contain all the latest and most reliable information about Missouri and Kansas with practical suggestions to immigrants as to profitable investment of labor and capital in industrial pursuits in the Great West." A dollar subscription included a "Premium Certificate," entitling the subscriber to an "equal share in the division among the patrons of $185,000 of real estate."
The collection is available for on-site use only in the Rare Book and Manuscripts Reading Room. Current hours are 8:00 A.M.- 5:00 P.M., Monday-Friday. Researchers are advised to call ahead concerning changes in hours due to University intersessions and holidays. The St. Louis Mercantile Library is located on levels one and two of the Thomas Jefferson Library building.
