Charles Brown

Charles E. Brown began his library career at the Thomas Jefferson Library on the campus of the University of Missouri-St. Louis in 1976. Brown was hired at the St. Louis Mercantile Library Association in 1982 and later appointed Reference Librarian in 1984. He has remained through the 1997 affiliation with UM-St. Louis. Charles is currently Head of Reference and Assistant to the Director of the St. Louis Mercantile Library at the University of Missouri-St. Louis. It is the oldest library west of the Mississippi in continuous existence.

Charles manages the St. Louis Globe-Democrat photo and newspaper clipping collection and assists the Director in the maintenance and logistics of the library’s rare book collections. He is engaged as consultant and researcher for patrons worldwide. You are invited to be among those who receive research assistance.

Brown is also active in a number of campus committees, civic and professional associations, and consistently volunteers. He is a graduate of the University of Missouri-St. Louis and a life-long St. Louisan.
