PrEP: (NOUN) A pill shown to help prevent HIV infection when taken once a day. (example: "Alex has been taking PrEP daily in preparation for his sexual relationship to protect him from HIV.")
PrEP stands for pre-exposure prophylaxis. It's intended for people who are at high risk for getting infected with HIV. In clinical trials, PrEP has been shown to reduce the risk of infection by 90% if taken every day.
UMSL Health Services offers STI screenings and consultations on PrEP, which is only available by prescription. Please reach out to our providers to ask if PrEP is right for you. You can visit the student health portal at health.umsl.edu to schedule an appointment, or call 314-516-5671.
