- Educate yourself about mental health issues your students may face and what they may experience.
- Tackle derogatory language and derogatory comments/jokes about those with mental health issues head-on; these are opportunities to have conversations about the stigma associated with mental health.
- Model a compassionate attitude towards others who may be struggling with or seeking help for a mental illness – you never know what your students may be dealing with!
- If you think a student may be having difficulty related to mental health, consult with and/or refer them to UMSL Counseling Services.
