The American Review
of Public Administration

Manuscript Submission

As one of the premier journals in its field, The American Review of Public Administration has always had the combined goals of both advancing the knowledge of public administration and improving its practice. A peer-reviewed journal dedicated to the study of public affairs and public administration, it features articles that address rapidly-emerging issues in the field.

With The American Review of Public Administration now being published by Sage Publications, the editors invite submission of manuscripts that help pursue the journal's goals.

Guidelines

The American Review of Public Administration has no methodological bias other than a preference for an analytical approach to the issue being addressed, and is open to traditional and non-traditional approaches to topics in public administration and public affairs, including:

  • Theory-Based Empirical Research
  • Commentaries on Pressing Issues
  • Reviews or Syntheses of Research
  • Conceptual/Theoretical Discussions on or over the Boundaries of Traditional Public Administration
The editors seek to complete review of all manuscripts within three months of the date of submission. The Journal follows a consistent policy of requiring blind refereeing of any manuscript, plus review by the editors.

Six (6) copies are required, as well as a copy on disk in MS Word. Submission of a manuscript implies a commitment by the author to publish in the journal, if the manuscript is accepted, and the editors assume that any manuscript submitted to ARPA is not currently under consideration by any other journal. Manuscripts between 20 and 30 pages are especially welcome. Manuscripts are subjected to blind peer review and require the author's name(s) and affiliation listed on a separate page. Any other identification, including any references in the manuscript, the notes, the title, and reference sections should be removed from the paper and listed on separate pages (all identifying information should be placed in separate files on the electronic, disk copy). Accepted submissions must conform to the Publication Manual of the American Psychological Association (APA), 4th edition. Each submission should also include an abstract between 100-150 words and a brief biographical sketch of each author. An electronic copy of the final revised manuscript must be submitted, preferably on an IBM-compatible disk.
