UMSL Health Insurance

The University of Missouri System has contracted with Anthem Student Advantage to provide health insurance for international students.

As an international student, you will be automatically enrolled in the UMSL student health insurance upon enrollment in classes each semester. Insurance fees will be billed to your student account and will appear on your monthly billing statement.

You can find plan details in the Anthem Insurance Portal.

ID Card and Mobile App

The easiest way to obtain your digital ID card and find ways to seek care is to download the Sydney Health app from the Apple App Store or Google Play.

Dental and Vision Coverage

The UMSL health insurance generally does not provide dental or vision coverage, though supplemental insurance can be purchased directly through Anthem. For more information and deadlines, go to the Anthem Insurance Portal.

Dependent Spouse and Child Coverage

This student health insurance plan is also available for dependent spouses and children at an additional cost.  You must enroll your dependents separately by the deadline; usually 2 weeks after the start of the semester.

Supplemental Coverage after Graduation

If you need coverage after graduation or while you are working on Optional Practical Training, please consult Jim Webb at webbjj@umsl.edu for more information.

Student Health Insurance Waivers

Health insurance waivers are only granted for the following reasons:

  1. You are a sponsored student and are covered by a government-sponsored health insurance program.
  2. You are covered under UMSL's employee health insurance through your employment or that of a family member.
  3. You are a short-term J-1 exchange student.
  4. You are a recipient of the Ministry of Education and Technical and Vocational Training (Bahamas) scholarship
  5. You will be outside the United States for the entire semester coverage period.

All waiver requests must be completed by the end of the second week of classes. Please note that completion of a waiver request does not guarantee that a waiver will be granted.

A detailed description of the insurance coverage will be available in early August for each plan year. For more information please contact webbjj@umsl.edu.
