All international students are required by law to maintain an up-to-date permanent and local address with UMSL and notify the U.S. Department of Homeland Security of any address changes within 10 days.
Report any change of local address within 10 days of moving. Please note that this long-standing requirement, once rarely enforced, is now strictly upheld by the Department of Homeland Security. Failure to comply may lead to a fine of up to $200, imprisonment for up to 30 days, or both. Consequently, within 10 days of any change to your local address you should follow the instructions below appropriate to your situation:
Newly-arrived and continuing F-1 or J-1 students at UMSL
When arriving in the U.S., new international students must physically report to the UMSL ISSS office in order to report local address and to make copies of immigration documents. Continuing students must notify changes in local address within 10 days of moving. Updates can be made at the registration office located in 269 Millenium Student Center or online.
Once your address information is updated with the registration office, the ISSS will be notified and the update will be forwarded to the Department of Homeland Security through your electronic SEVIS record.
F-1 Students / J-1 Students on Post-Completion Optional Practical Training or Academic Training
F-1 / J-1 students who have completed their programs and are on post-completion OPT or Academic Training may update the U.S. immigration authorities of their new address by notifying the ISSS or their immigration sponsor directly.
