Anita ManionPolitical Science
Dr. Anita Manion's research focuses the impact of policy on issues of equity — particularly in areas of education and elections. She is utilizing GIS in this work to better understand who is affected and how, and to communicate that information to stakeholders. In an analysis of the impact of four-day school weeks on teacher recruitment and retention, GIS is being used to illustrate areas of Missouri where four-day weeks are most often used and to examine the characteristics of those regions.
In another project, Manion and her colleagues are mapping donors to campaigns for St. Louis mayoral candidates and candidates for St. Louis County executive to see where donors are concentrated and determine benefits that may result in those neighborhoods. Anita is also part of a team that is utilizing GIS as part of a study of executive actions enacted by governors that effected the 2020 elections.
