Phyllis Balcerzak, is an Associate Teaching Professor in UMSL’s College of Education with teaching responsibilities in undergraduate and graduate STEM pedagogy courses and graduate research courses. She has a Ph.D. in Aquatic Ecology, a Masters in Natural Sciences and holds secondary teaching certifications in Biology, Chemistry, and physical sciences in Ohio and Missouri. Her research interests are in surfacing the variables that impact the transfer of professional learning from university coursework to the K-12 schools. Balcerzak’s work through the College of Education’s Geospatial Design Lab is focused on bringing her STEM curriculum and instruction expertise to co-design classroom tools & resources that will enable K-12 teachers to tighten the gap between the traditional curriculum and STEM workforce development.
