GWP believes in the power of community, and what builds community better than food & writing?
About the Program
Ronald McDonald House at 3450 Park Ave, St. Louis, MO 63104 serves families with children being treated at Cardinal Glennon Children's Hospital. The house provides a “home-away-from-home” for families so they can stay close by their hospitalized child at little or no cost. Ronald McDonald Houses are built on the simple idea that nothing else should matter when a family is focused on healing their child – not where they can afford to stay, where they will get their next meal, or where they will lay their heads at night to rest. RMDH allows families to face the weight of illness together and to focus on the health of their child, rather than grocery shopping, cleaning, or cooking meals.
Gateway Writing Project believes in the power of writing! We want to bring together a community of writers willing to share stories of facing illness. Our hope is to put together a collection of inspirational stories or tips to leave with families staying at the Ronald McDonald House. Knowing that they are not alone in their struggle may bring comfort and in turn may inspire them to share their own story. We believe in writing communities, and we hope to create a powerful one right here in our community.
