Thank you for your interest in the Fall 2024 Child-Parent Relationship Therapy (CPRT) Group for parents and caregivers!
WHO CPRT BENEFITS:
CPRT is a play-based treatment program for parents and caregivers of young children presenting with behavioral, emotional, social, and attachment concerns. In a supportive and interactive group environment, parents and caregivers learn skills to respond more effectively to their children's emotional and behavioral concerns using play therapy techniques. This CPRT group is for parents and caregivers of children ages 3-10.
WHY TRY IT?
When children have problems, sometimes they don’t have the words to talk about them. Play gives children a way to communicate feelings they don’t understand or can’t express any other way. Play therapy has been shown to be an effective intervention with children for a variety of behavioral and emotional difficulties. Research has shown that motivated parents can be trained to be as effective as play therapists, using play therapy skills with their own children, in as little as 10 sessions. This play-based approach not only helps parents learn to manage their children’s behavior successfully, it also provides parents with the keys to enhancing and strengthening the parent-child bond and having more fun with their children.
WHAT TO EXPECT:
Group leaders will introduce a new play-based technique each week. Group members will learn concepts via demonstrations, videos, interactive roleplays, and practice with their own child at home. During "Special Playtime" sessions with your child at home, you will have the opportunity to practice the play-based techniques that are taught each week in class. Each group member will share a short video clip of their at-home session with the group. In a safe and accepting environment, this allows other group members and group leaders to share their experiences, as well as gain valuable insights and tips. Class workbooks and special toy kits are included with registration! This group is Free.
Fill out the interest form. A counselor will follow up with you to share more about the group and answer any questions you might have.
