Dr. Martille Elias is an educator, practitioner and researcher who specializes in literacy studies, school-university partnerships and the professional development of teachers in the area of reading, writing and language. Dr. Elias earned her PhD from the University of Missouri-Columbia in 2005. She began her career as a classroom teacher and holds certification for K-12 education. Dr. Elias serves as the faculty program coordinator for the St. Louis Public School Reading Certification Program, which works to build knowledge and collegiality among SLPS teachers. Dr. Elias is dedicated to empowering pre-service and practicing teachers to put literacy theory into practice, become confident decision makers, and develop the skills needed to be change agents in the field of literacy.
