Mary Martha Abernathy, MA, LPC, NCC is a Program Manager and Counselor in the Department of Education Sciences and Professional Programs in the Counseling and Social Advocacy Center @ UMSL. She received her bachelor's degree in Human Development and Family Studies, with a focus on adolescent development from Auburn University in 2007, her Master's in Counseling in 2012 from Covenant Theological Seminary, she is currently a Doctoral Candidate pursuing her Ph.D. in Education with an emphasis in Counseling from the University of Missouri - St. Louis (UMSL).
Prior to joining the Counseling and Social Advocacy Center at UMSL in 2022, she was an working in private practice as a counselor, seeing clients who struggle with depression, anxiety, and symptoms of trauma. Mary Martha also worked as a Graduate Assistant for the Counseling and Social Advocacy Center, prior to her full-time position. She has been a licensed professional counselor in Missouri since 2015.
Mary Martha's research interests include counselor supervision, supervisor development and expertise, multicultural issues in supervision, and counselor development.
