Mary Martha Abernathy, Ph.D., LPC, NCC is Associate Director of the Counseling and Social Advocacy Center @ UMSL, a training center in the Department of Education Sciences and Professional Programs. She received her bachelor's degree in Human Development and Family Studies, with a focus on adolescent development from Auburn University in 2007, her Master's in Counseling in 2012 from Covenant Theological Seminary, and completed her Ph.D. in Education with an emphasis in Counseling from the University of Missouri - St. Louis (UMSL) in 2024.
Prior to joining the Counseling and Social Advocacy Center at UMSL in 2022, she was working in private practice as a counselor, seeing clients who struggle with depression, anxiety, and symptoms of trauma. Mary Martha also worked as a Graduate Assistant for the Counseling and Social Advocacy Center, prior to her full-time position. She has been a licensed professional counselor in Missouri since 2015.
Mary Martha's research interests include counselor supervision, supervisor development and expertise, multicultural issues in supervision, and counselor development.
